Speaking Top-down Strategies

The top down strategies involves  focusing on broad matters of language such as the topic, background knowledge and information, and the context.

Activity

Choose groups of words that sound similar say one word from each group and the students should draw a circle around the word that you said. You can use the same list several times. When you have gone through the list once, you can say to the learners, “Now we will start at number 1 again. This time draw a square around the words that I say.” Then, you say words that you did not say the first time.

1- heat       hit        eat          hat           it
2- can        kin        ken         gone         Kim
3- lice        rice       price        size          lies
